EMS DIVER'S SEAT BELT USE

Governor Andrew Cuomo on 11/20/15 signed into law a bill amending NYS Motor Vehicle & Traffic Law section 1229 and taking effect immediately that requires all firefighters and EMS personnel to wear seatbelts while operating volunteer fire and/or ambulance vehicles.
There is an exception for emergency medical personnel providing patient care in the rear compartment of an ambulance in accordance with applicable patient care standards, guidelines and protocols pursuant to Article 30 of the Public Health Law.
Penalty for violating the provisions of the section shall be a civil fine of up to fifty dollars.
This legislation was sponsored by State Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan and Assembly member Fred Thiele, and closes a loophole that previously exempted first responders from having to wear seatbelts.

SPOTTERS

Just a reminder that when backing up ANY Corp. Vehicle, you must use a spotter. This is a rule that is part of the SOP's. Any member found not using a spotter will be suspended as a driver on the spot, and charges may be written.

PARKING

When not on an emergency call you are not allowed to park the ambulances or responders (any dept vehicle) in fire zones, handicapped spots, or reserved spots. Please park in properly marked parking spots. This should be common sense but the chiefs office has received numerous complaints from the community and police officers.

Yes this includes when you want to run into bagel boss to get a bagel, run into target to get a card, run into dunkin donuts to get coffee…..etc…..

If we catch you doing so your driving privileges will be revoked.

If you have any questions or do not understand why you are not allowed to park in fire zones when not on calls feel free to ask a chief and we will try to patiently explain why.

If there are any problems with the rigs or responders, please contact the Captain of the Day.
If there are any serious vehicle issues, such as ones that are detrimental to the safe operation of the vehicle (won't start, stalls, flat tires, engine fire, etc.), please call Brian DuFour.
Thank You
